An assignment for custom designed merchandise for tattoo shop Kunta.Inc during the culture night, THE culture event of Roermond. A collaboration in which we provided around 20 exclusive two piece suits that were sold to friends and family. I also designed a lining fabric with the Kunta logo on it. With this the lining and details were applied.

cubism and vandalism by Jody Peeters at JJAYCE

Cubism and Vandalism, April 2024

Towards the end of my second year, I was given the subjects of Cubism and Vandalism to create a series ‘making family’ with. I chose to design a family of wearable outfits reflecting my interest from deepening on these subjects. For example, in the silhouette you can see Cubism back more, the geometric shapes and the sleek back. Furthermore, you also see back how cubists tried to make you see everything at a glance, and is this sufficient? Is my perception correct? A kind of illusion of sight. In the finishing, I allowed Vandalism to speak more. Edges that appear unfinished, no straight seams, loose threads, holes as if the garment piece has been taken in hand by a vandalist. All the proofs in the images are made from used clothing. Used clothing has already had one or often several lives before it appears in the second hand store, so it has already had a family before it ends up in my hands and this ties in well with the theme.

Plaster sculpture collection Bonnefanten, January 2024

An assignment I received at the beginning of my second year of my design course. We were assigned to delve into their plaster sculpture collection at the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht. You pick an image and put it in current daylight to create work under the theme of making copy where the present meets the past. Here I zoomed in on an embracing historical sculpture. From this I created the ’embrace’ as accessories. I continued to develop these the following block which was mostly about form research. Eventually I chose to make a series of several embraces each in a different form and material.

JJAYCE three-piece outfit

the paper dress

The paper dress was a school assignment in 2023 where I received a long disposable blouse made of delicate, papery fabric that was see-through and easily tore. The task was to create a new product, preferably in the direction of clothing or accessories, using this material. However, we were also allowed to use the material exclusively for a different type of object. I made a three-piece outfit consisting of a mini skirt, a corset, and a cropped jacket.

the denim shoe box

During my first year at school, I previously had to transform an existing chair into a new one. In doing so, I added denim to a silver chair. The intention was to place this chair in a setting where it shines and then design another object to go with it. I envisioned my chair in a modern house owned by a collector of contemporary art, sneakers, and streetwear—perhaps even a hypebeast.

As I wanted to create a collector’s item, I turned a shoebox into a denim piece. It can be displayed decoratively on its own or used to showcase sneakers. To incorporate the silver aspect of the chair, I made it into a bag using silver details. Additionally, I created a small denim crossbody bag with the same silver accents, which I now use as an accessory for my outfits.

JJAYCE cardboard Air Max 1

the cardboard Air Max 1 Lumiere

In 2022, at school we received the assignment to create a charm solely from cardboard material to be used on a necklace or bracelet, but on a larger scale. My own Air Max 1 Lumiere has a charm attached to it, which inspired me to replicate an Air Max 1 Lumiere from cardboard including the charm as to me the Air Max 1 Lumiere is a really cool shoe.
